Soft close toilet seats provide several benefits. They are more convenient and discreet, and they are safer for kids and pets. Also, they are easier to clean than traditional toilets. However, these benefits may be lost if the soft close hinges become damaged or defective.

If you have a soft close toilet seat that is not working properly, you can fix the problem easily. In fact, you can do so without replacing the entire seat. To do so, you will need a screwdriver, a flat head or Phillips screwdriver, and some lubricant. You can also contact the manufacturer for assistance.

Depending on your particular model, you may need to replace the soft close hinges on your toilet seat. The hinges are made of two parts: the axle and the outer cylinder. Having a loose or cracked hinge can impede the rotation of the axle, making the seat not shut properly.

The hinges on a soft close toilet seat can be easily replaced. A new set of soft close hinges can be purchased for less than $15 USD. Some of these replacements may come with a one-year warranty. There are also some toilets that include the soft-close unit as a part of the installation process. But if you have a broken hinge, you will have to replace the whole seat instead of just the soft-close unit.

Besides a loose or broken hinge, another cause of the failure of a soft-close hinge is a loss of grease. If your toilet seat isn't able to close, you may want to clean the inside of the hinge and apply some waterproof grease. Alternatively, you can try using silicone damping grease. This will help to prevent the seat from closing slowly.

When you're ready to replace the hinges on your toilet seat, you should remove the plastic cover. It is usually hidden underneath the rear edge of the bowl. For this purpose, you should place the lid on a flat surface. Once the lid is on the surface, you can push up on the recessed areas of the gray plastic cover.

If you're unable to open the hinges, you can try using a screwdriver to twist the hinges towards each other. If that doesn't work, you can use needle-nose pliers to grasp the "X" on the end of each cylinder. Pulling inward with these pliers should separate the damper assembly from the seat.

After removing the damper, you can then clean the inside of the seat with a paper towel. Then, you can reassemble the damper. Lastly, you can reinstall the seat onto the toilet.

Whether you are installing a new toilet seat or fixing a defective soft-close seat, the quality of the materials used is an important factor. High-quality material and finishing will ensure that the product won't fade or peel. Furthermore, a quality vinyl toilet seat will be bacteria-resistant, which will prevent it from developing mold and mildew. Ultimately, a soft close toilet seat's longevity depends on the quality of the material and your personal usage habits.
